The short story “A Pair of Jeans” by Qaisra Shahraz begins in medias res with Miriam getting off the bus and hurrying home in time for the visit of her future in-laws. We could say the story has a circular structure, since it begins with Miriam arriving home to meet her in-laws and ends with her leaving the house to visit her in-laws and her fiancé. She is also dressed the same on both occasions: in a pair of jeans, and a short jacket.

The events are told in chronological order, with the exception of one flashback, when Begum remembers how she met Miriam and her mother a year ago.
