The short story “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemmingway is also built around the iceberg theory. In the story, a man and a girl nicknamed Jig are having an intense conversation, although the subject is never explicitly mentioned. Just as in Langston Hughes’ short story, in “Hills like White Elephants” the reader is left to infer the true significance of the story.
