Short summary
Guy Montag from Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451 is a fireman. His job, which he likes very much, is to burn houses in the city, where books are hidden. In the society in which he lives, books are forbidden. People prefer to watch TV, listen to the radio, and race around in their cars. They want to be entertained and amused all the time. Their conversations contain only countless examples of small talk. They think they are happy this way. There is a threat of war, but people pay hardly any attention to it.
Guy's wife Mildred has attempted suicide several times. Her memory, however, has suffered so much from the constant exposure to radio and TV that she can't seem to remember her suicide attempts the very next day. She avoids problems, she prefers to have fun and enjoy herself.
