“Loose Change” by Andrea Levy may be considered a postmodern text. Postmodernism is a literary movement which can take many forms. However, a focus on postcolonialism and immigration is common within such texts. We outline this focus in our Themes section.

Other postmodern features which can be found in “Loose Change” are the unreliable narrator and the questioning of distinctions between high and low culture. The narrator is a middle-class Londoner with art knowledge who considers her view of art superior to that of Laylor, who is a young immigrant with little knowledge about art history.
