Ferrera’s talk is built on her personal experiences as a Latina actress living in the US. Consequently, Ferrera’s opinions about the film industry in the US are connected with her experiences. 

Ferrera uses her personal experience as an actress to show that actors belonging to minorities experience prejudice in the film industry. The first personal anecdote she offers presents her shock and disappointment after realizing that the casting director did not care about her experiences as an authentic Latina and wanted a stereotype instead:
