Summary
The short story “The Hockey Sweater” by Roch Carrier is narrated by an anonymous boy of ten. He lives in Canada and the highlight of his days is playing hockey on the skating rink. The boy and his friends are huge fans of Maurice Richard, a hockey player who performs for Montreal Canadiens. The boys wear the red, white and blue uniform with Maurice Richard’s number 9 on the back and imitate his style and appearance.
When the boy’s uniform gets too small and torn, his mother decides to order him a new one from the Eaton’s catalogue. As the mother is French and the catalogue is written in English...
