The theme of marriage is also explored in the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In the story, a woman is forced by her husband and doctor to rest in bed after suffering a nervous breakdown. The woman is isolated and bored which causes her to develop an obsession with the wallpaper in her room. When comparing “The Yellow Wallpaper” to “The Legacy” it would be useful to look at how Angela and the woman in “The Yellow Wallpaper” are treated by their husbands.
